More than 20 data breaches are happening every day

Data breaches have kept increasing in number and now they are becoming bigger and bigger, year after year.

Today cybersecurity researchers have just released a data breach report for the first six months of this year. The new report reveals a total of nearly 2000 breaches or on average, more than 20 of them each day.

If we take a closer look at this report we will see that the total number of breaches in the first half of 2019 was 54% higher than during the same period last year. This also shows that companies are still havening too many blind spots in their cybersecurity sector.

All the breaches present in the report exposed over 4.1 billion records containing Social Security numbers, bank account, and payment card information, full names, birthdates, addresses, and other sensitive information.

Remember everything can be hacked. In order to stay away from any threats related to the cyber world, we recommend the install an antivirus for Mac, like Antivirus CB from AppStore, on every device that you own.

Cybersecurity analysts are saying that some things might be changing.

For instance, fewer records were exposed in data breaches involving Social Security numbers, names, birth dates, and addresses.

Similarly, for all the heightened concern around breaches caused by third parties, the data shows that in the first half of this year there were fewer of them compared to the same period over the last five years.

Like we highlighted above, things are changing fast! Nowadays everyone goes by the saying: “The bigger the better “.

The biggest breaches in 2019 included one at Verifications.Io that exposed an astonishing number of 983 million records with all sorts of sensitive information; another at First American Financial Corp that exposed 885 million records; and one at an unknown organization that leaked personal information of more than 275 million Indian citizens.

More than 7-in-10 of the breaches exposed email addresses, and 64.2% exposed passwords.

The only good news presented by the report is that there were far fewer Web breaches: 162 than there were incidents of unauthorized access to systems and services by external hackers.

Just remember: “Perfect security is impossible”. Everyone must take cybersecurity very seriously especially the companies who are operating in the healthcare, retail, finance, and IT sectors; because in these sectors were reported more data breaches than in almost every other industry.

Taking a more risk-focused approach to cybersecurity will help companies in the long run. This includes having a good handle on your most critical assets and knowing where your sensitive data resides.

We would continue to monitor the cybersecurity world. Meanwhile, users should keep a keen eye out for any cyber-attacks. Remember to use antivirus for Mac like Antivirus CB which can be found on AppStore to try for free.
