Facepunch data breach affected 396K Users

Facepunch game studio has been breached in June 2016, the cybersecurity problem led to 396,650 users being exposed.
For those who don’t know Facepunch is a game development studio based in Wallsall, UK, known for developing the Rust survival game and the Garry’s Mod physics sandbox.

The 396k records breached in 2016 included usernames, email, IP addresses, dates of birth and MD5 password hashes. After the breach, the Facepunch studio said they notified all the people involved in it.
But as it always happens some users have said that they did not receive any e-mail notification from Facepunch after their information was leaked.
Other Facepunch users say the data breach occurred because of “injected credential stealing code using a vBulletin exploit” which took “advantage of browser credential autofill on the /modcp or /admincp page.”

Remember everything can be hacked. In order to stay away from any threats related to the cyber world, we recommend the install of antivirus for Windows or antivirus for Mac on every device that you own, depending on which OS your device is running. If you are a company, it is also recommended to hire every year a specialized cybersecurity company that will run annual tests on your company’s network. These tests include penetration testing and ethical hacking tests;

All the breached data is now available for check on Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) service. The well-known service was created by Troy Hunt as a repository of all the data leaked in security breaches made public, with passwords being removed from the information stored in HIBP’s database.
HIBP can also notify you when your e-mail address appears in a database stolen after a data breach.

Keep in mind that our modern society is dependent on computers, mobile devices, and the use of the internet always stay safe and secured.
